Who predicted that the start of a new decade would bring a pandemic? We heard about countries in far off places being struck with the virus, but I suspect mentally we forgot that we are a global society with constant movement, so I’m sure most of us thought we would be spared. Then overnight we woke up to a new reality, borders shut down, orders to remain at home and the new phrase which emerged from this crisis “social/physical distancing”.
I’m fortunate in that my job allows me to work remotely, but none of us thought that we would be busier than when we were in the office. I had taken a bit if a hiatus from crocheting but a combination of the orders to remain at home, to social distance, and the increased work stress has led me to picking up my crochet hook again. I’ve been stitching donated squares into blankets. The number of unfinished projects was scary, but I’ve been tackling them one at a time and sometimes modifying the original pattern just for the sake of finishing the blanket. My new “home office” sits close to a portion of my yarn stash, so I daily I have a visual reminder that I have a lot of work ahead of me. While we gradually wait for things to morph into the new “norm” whatever that will look like, stay safe. It’s hard to believe that another year has past and we’re starting a new decade. All I can say is WOW! Wishing everyone a blessed and prosperous 2020.
As you have noticed I have been negligent about keeping this site up-to-date, my only excuse is life got in the way 😊 Like resolutions I avoid making guarantees, however my goal is to continue to working on those never-ending WIPs (work in progress) projects and to start and complete new blankets. Please check in periodically to see those finished projects. Happy New Year everyone, wishing everyone a healthy and prosperous year.
It's hard to believe that 2018 is behind us and we're almost through the first month of 2019. I have no specific crafting goals this year other than to produce as many items as possible. Below are the last two blankets I finished in 2018. I already have one baby blanket produced for 2019, stay tuned for the picture. Life has been hectic since the last time I posted. Whipped up a child’s blanket for an arts & craft event where I attempted to teach a group of students how to crochet. The orange, brown and cream blanket was created to demonstrate what can be done with squares.
I just completed the series of blues blanket for the men’s shelter. 2018 is the year for completing works-in-progress (WIPS) I recently came across a bag of these circles which have become my primary focus. I’m close to converting all of the circles into squares. Once I have completed that task I will join the squares together. Not sure what joining method I will use. Stayed tuned and find out. Until next time…
It’s embarrassing to admit that only recently I completed two of works in progress (WIP) from 2017. Better late than never…LOL
In my previous post you saw the start of a blanket. Who knew that three blankets would result from two large balls and one small ball of contrast yarn! They say variety is the spice of life so I crocheted a V-stitch, granny square and a rectangular granny square blanket. First time working with the Snuggly Wuggly yarn, love it, it’s so soft.
I can’t believe it’s mid-April, this year is flying by. The calendar says it’s spring but this weekend is one continuous ice storm, I am NOT amused.
I’ve been on a bit of a hiatus from crafting but have picked up the hook again and slowly working through various projects. Finished a scrap, as well as baby afghan. Currently working on a V-stitch baby blanket using yarn that was donated by Seneca serves. Once I finish this blanket I have several works-in-progress that I should get back to, the emphasis on the “should”….LOL On March 1st I had the privilege of working with a group of college students and staff, Seneca Serves. Part of a three-day leadership program, students were asked to give back to the community, and they chose Warming Families as their project. I spent the day demonstrating how to make granny squares that will eventually be turned into a blanket. For pictures of that phenomenal day go here...
