Say goodbye to hats and welcome a series of events celebrating 2010. It's Warming Families 10th anniversary year!
Congratulations...due to your efforts both the local GTA goal as well as the Warming Families goals have been achieved! We surpassed both goals. Four months ago it seemed that a goal of collecting 25,000 hats was unrealistic but we proved that statement wrong, 29,560 hats were donated to the homeless and displaced. Amazing.... For the GTA chapter since we were doing so well the past couple of months I had raised the bar to 550 hats, well we blew through that target and 594 hats were donated. The hats were delivered to various shelters such as - Interim Place II, Wilkinson Road Shelter, the Salvation Army Family Life Resource Centre and the Markham Food Bank.
If anyone still has hats they had hoped to add to the challenge we will still gladly accept them but now they will be added towards our monthly counts.
Thank you, thank you and thank you.
It's hard to believe but we are almost at the end of our challenge, two more weeks to go! With the efforts of so many pulling together I'm sure that we will reach that 25,000 goal. We can do it!!!
Congratulations to everyone who has contributed thus far to the hat challenge. The original goal for the GTA chapter was 400 hats and we've now surpassed it with a month left to go. So it's time to set a new goal. I thought about rounding things off by committing to only 500 hats but why stop there, let's dream big and throw out a new challenge of making 550 by the end of December. I know everyone is now preparing for the holiday season but I still think that we can still manage it. To everyone who has promised to make hats we're counting on you to pull us through. Happy crafting!
I just discovered this interesting his/her pattern that has an interesting pinwheel effect on the crown. The pattern can be found at http://www.naturallycaron.com/projects/sydney/sydney_1.html
The goal for the overall hat challenge was 15,000 to 25,000 hats, while we're almost to the lower figure. As of the end of October 10,527 hats have been donated for this challenge! Congratulations everyone.
The October counts are in; we've added another 153 hats!!! 56 of those hats were made from the yarn donated by Lands End. At this rate we will more than surpass the chapter goal of 400 hats. Thank you everyone.
If you are interested in participating in this challenge it's not too late to join in on the fun. We still have another 2 months ahead of us. Remember all of these hats are being donated to people in GTA so why not dig out those knitting needles, knitting loom or crochet hook and help give back to our community.
We're halfway through the challenge, yahoo!!! Tired of doing the same pattern over and over? Then why not mix it up and try a hat with a visor. For some pattern suggestions go to http://crochet.about.com/od/hats/tp/Visor_Beanie_Hats.htm?nl=1
As of the end of September 3,792 hats have been donated to the overall Warming Families-Lands End challenge. Fantastic!!! We're off to a great start. Let's keep the momentum up.
Wow, another 84 hats were added to the count as of the end of September! To all those who participated in the challenge a big thank you goes out to you guys, give yourselves a pat on the back. Only 275 hats to goal! I'm sure that we can reach that number and possibly surpass it by the end of December. So if you know anyone who might be interested in participating please pass the word on to them. The temperatures are really starting to drop these past couple of nights so these hats are going to be really appreciated by the recipients.
Keep those hats coming.
