The Winter Items Challenge is officially over. Thank you to everyone who contributed. Although the challenge is over I will still be collecting winter items, etc. hats, gloves, scarves etc until mid-to-end of February. Other items such as blankets and slippers are collected year round.
I have to submit my figures by Dec.31st at noon so if there is anyone out there who has items to donate I ask that you email me with your counts so that they can be added to the overall Warming Families Winter Items Challenge tally. Thank you.
Just because it's the middle of December it's not too late to pick up those knitting needles or crochet hooks and make a hat, scarf and mittens or whatever. We will be collecting items towards the challenge right through to December 31st. As much of North America is being hit by winter storms it's a reminder of all of those folks who need warm items to get them through the season.
There are a number of great patterns available on the internet. Here's the link to a beautiful but simple hat you might try.
http://vallieskids.blogspot.com/2009/06/jayde-hat.html Where has the time gone, it seems only days ago that this challenge started and here we are with just over a month left. Lately it appears as if things have hit a plateau but I’m confident that our numbers will increase the closer we get to the end of the year. Are you with me?
It's hard to believe that we are only 2 months away from end of this challenge; it's time to get serious. This morning suddenly the clear blue skies turned dark and minutes later I looked on in disbelief at a blizzard of snow pellets that came out of nowhere. It was a wakeup call that winter is right around the corner bringing with it the need to put the knitting needles and crochet hook into high gear.
Do you do crochet-on-the-double? If you are looking for a hat pattern then check out Becky's Fantastimico.com blog that will walk you step by step through the construction of a hat.
URGENT... if you sent me an email message between September 30 and October 2, 2010 would you please resend. Something happened to my email account and some messages were lost. Sorry for the inconvenience.
If you are an intermediate level knitter try this "Fallen Leaves Scarf" that showcases various stitches. The pattern can be found at http://www.knittingdaily.com/media/p/47103.aspx or follow along with the video from Knitting Daily. If you’re like me you’re in denial that summer is officially over and the thought of cooler days and evenings is somewhat depressing. But what better time to consider picking up those knitting needles, crochet hooks or knitting loom to start crafting warm items for this year’s challenge? There’s only 90 days left until the end of the challenge, but no pressure... LOL
