Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the GTA Chapter
Happy Anniversary!!! The GTA Chapter is now in its 10th year. Many thanks go out to all who have contributed through the years. Working together we have lent a helping hand to hundreds in the Brampton and GTA community.
Some have asked how the chapter started, simply as the result of a nasty car accident in September 2010 and my needing an outlet as I healed. A couple of months after the accident I desperately was looking for something to keep me sane and decided to participate in a warm items drive hosted by a local crafts store. Interesting enough I found that despite not being able to work initially with anything larger than a hat or a square the motion of tugging on the yarn helped to restore some of the muscles damaged in the accident. After the holidays I looked for an avenue where I could continue to make items for the community which proved to be more challenging than I had anticipated therefore I turned to the internet and found Warming Families. Shortly after I had agreed to make items the area volunteer at the time had to step down and asked if I would be interested in taking over and the rest as they say is history.

Anniversary Theme: "If WE Can Help Somebody"
I was raised in a family where giving back to the community in whatever manner has been a tradition. My mother was a soloist and each year she selected a theme song so following her example I have decided to commemorate this special year by choosing the banner “If I can Help Somebody”. This is the title of a song I heard growing up. Warming Families is not meant to be an individual but rather a collective endeavour so let’s modify the title slightly to “If WE Can Help Somebody”. Have a great 2011!!!
Personal Goal for 2011
Feel free to donate any of the items listed on the "How To Help" page however I'm setting a personal goal of completing 10 charity blankets and 20 pairs of slippers this year. Follow me on my journey in the blog section.
